Dwayne Johnson action tentpole Skyscraper opens this week day-and-date with North America in 56 international markets.
The Legendary and Universal summer release gets a big push through Universal Pictures International later this week, when it will leap into action in the UK, among others.
Skyscraper arrives in North America on July 13 and also goes out day-and-date in Australia, France, South Korea, Brazil, Russia, and Hong Kong.
Wednesday July 11 brings debuts in France and Belgium – both countries’ national teams will have played each other in the first World Cup semi-final on Tuesday – and South Korea.
The film opens on July 12 in Australia, Germany, Russia, Brazil, Portugal, Singapore, Hong Kong, and Netherlands. It debuts on July 13 in the UK – England will have played Croatia in the second semi-final on July 11 – as well as Mexico, Spain, and Sweden.
It opens in China via Legendary East on July 20, when big things are expected: the story takes place in Hong Kong, and Johnson is a big star in China from his role in the Fast And The Furious franchise. 2017’s The Fate Of The Furious remains the highest grossing film released in China on $392.8m.
Johnson stars as a former FBI hostage rescue team leader and US war veteran who works as a security assessor for skyscrapers. On assignment in Hong Kong he must clear his name and save his trapped family after he is framed for a fire at the world’s tallest building.
Rawson Marshall Thurber, with whom Johnson collaborated on Central Intelligence, write and directed. Beau Flynn produces with Johnson, Thurber and Hiram Garcia. Executive producers are Dany Garcia, Wendy Jacobson, Eric McLeod and Eric Hedayat.
Universal anticipates a North American opening around the $30m mark.
