Mickey Liddell’s LD Entertainment has committed in the region of $8m for Max Minghella’s directorial debut and TIFF selection Teen Spirit starring Elle Fanning.
Liddell will partner with a distributor on the film about a gifted teenage singer who enters a talent contest accompanied by a kindly former opera singer who appoints himself the youngster’s manager.
Teen Spirit premiered in Special Presentations on Friday and screens for press and industry on Saturday and for the public again on Sunday.
Automatik, Blank Tape, and Interscope produced the film, and CAA brokered the deal with Liddell.
Mister Smith Entertainment handles international sales and previously closed deals with Lionsgate UK, Roadshow for Australia, and Square One for Germany, among others.
