Ellie Bamber will play supermodel Kate Moss and Derek Jacobi will play artist Lucian Freud in James Lucas’ upcoming feature Moss & Freud, for which Cornerstone Films will handle worldwide sales at this month’s European Film Market (EFM, February 16-22).
The film is produced by Matthew Metcalfe for the UK’s GFC Films. Moss will executive produce the title with the support of the Lucian Freud Archive.
Moss & Freud is a dramatized account of when, at the peak of her fame in the early 2000s, Moss decided to sit for famed British artist Freud. The film will be set around Freud’s studio in Holland Park, London, as well as other locations in the UK capital.
Production dates are unconfirmed but Moss says the film will start shooting “soon”.
The Reset Collective will release the film in Australia and New Zealand.
“As this is such a personal story of mine it has been essential that I be involved with James in all aspects as the project has developed,” said Moss. “I am thrilled by the recent casting and excited that the film will begin shooting soon, I cannot wait to see it.”
Bamber was named a Screen Star of Tomorrow in 2015. She has since gone on to star in films including Nocturnal Animals, and series The Trial Of Christine Keeler and The Serpent.
UK-New Zealand filmmaker Lucas won the Academy Award for best live action short film in 2015 for The Phone Call, which stars Sally Hawkins and Jim Broadbent.
Freud, who died in 2011, was one of the leading UK artists of the 20th and early 21st century. His nude portrait of Moss sold for £4m in 2005.
