eOne and producer and former Marvel Studios executive Jeremy Latcham have signed a first-look deal and made a previously announced Dungeons & Dragons feature adaptation their first project.
The feature, based on the hugely popular role-playing game that has bewitched fans of all ages for decades, is the first project involving eOne and Paramount since Hasbro acquired eOne. News of the project first emerged late last year involving Paramount and Hasbro’s AllSpark Pictures.
The Dungeons & Dragons property is managed by Hasbro subsidiary Wizards Of The Coast, which also manages Magic: The Gathering, and typifies the kind of content eOne aims to exploit from Hasbro’s stable of intellectual property.
Previously announced Jonathan Goldstein and John Francis Daley, who directed Game Night and wrote the screenplay to Spider-Man: Homecoming, are in talks to direct.
Latcham most produced Bad Times At The El Royale and before that, spent 13 years at Marvel Studios where he was executive producer on Spider-Man: Homecoming, Avengers: Age Of Ultron, Guardians Of The Galaxy and The Avengers.
Nick Meyer, eOne’s president of film, said: “Jeremy is a massively talented producer with a track record of creating true-to-brand films with size and scope that resonate with audiences and excel on a global scale. In our exciting new era with Hasbro, we’re thrilled to begin this new partnership and look forward to sharing the amazing projects that are to come.”
Latcham added his passion for storytelling “steeped in heart, humour and spectacle aligns with D&D’s decades of immersive, adventure-driven storytelling.”
Hasbro-owned brands include Transformers, G.I. Joe, Peppa Pig, Nerf, My Little Pony, Monopoly, and Play-Doh.
