Entertainment One (eOne) has become only the second UK independent distributor ever to accumulate more than £100m ($160.5m) at the UK box office in a calendar year.
The 2013 slate included box office successes such as The Impossible, Quartet, Now You See Me, Insidious 2 and Prisoners as well as the critically-acclaimed Side Effects, Mud and Behind The Candelabra.
According to eOne, the last independent distributor to top the £100 million mark in a calendar year was Entertainment Film Distributors (EFD) in 2003.
Alex Hamilton, managing director of eOne Films UK said: “Ever since we released our first movie Twilight in December 2008, it’s been an incredible journey.
“But to reach £100m in the first calendar year we didn’t have a Twilight movie feels especially gratifying.”
eOne will celebrate its fifth anniversary as a theatrical distributor this December.
