Epicentre go for A Month in Thailand after Venice

Paris-based distributor Epicentre has taken French rights for Romanian Paul Negoescu’s A Month in Thailand [pictured] following its premiere in Critics’ Week in Venice earlier this week.

“The deal was closed right after the official screening on Monday (Sept 3) where the film was received very warmly,” said Pierre Menahem of Paris-based MPM Film which is handling international sales on the picture.

Menahem brokered the deal with Daniel Chabannes and Corentin Senechal of Epicentre. The distributor will release the title on 20 prints in the spring of 2013.

Following its Venice premiere, A Month in Thailand is set to screen in a slew of festivals over the coming months including Zurich, Namur, Montreal and Thessaloniki.

Negoescu’s debut feature after a series of award-winning shorts, the film revolves around a bunch of wealthy young Romanians on New Year’s Eve in Bucharest.

Menahem is now at Toronto with two other recent MPM acquisitions: Jem Cohen’s Museum Hours, which will make its North American premiere in the Contemporary World Cinema section, and Willam Vega’s La Sirga, which will screen in the Discovery sidebar.

Paris-based production company MPM Film was founded by Marie-Pierre Macia and Juliette Lepoutre in 2007. Former Celluloid Dreams sales exec Pierre Menahem joined forces with the company last August to launch an international co-productions and sales operation aimed at five to six new films a year.
