The 13 feature documentaries in the running for the 2022 European Film Awards have been revealed.

They include Mariupolis 2 by murdered Lithuanian filmmaker Mantas Kvedaravicius, which premiered at Cannes and comprises footage the director shot before he was captured and killed by the Russian army in the Ukrainian city of Mariupol in April.
Also selected is Mr Landsbergis by Ukrainian director Sergei Loznitsa, a four-hour account of the struggle for Lithuania’s independence from the USSR in the early 1990s, which won the best documentary award on its debut at IDFA in 2021. Loznitsa made the shortlist of last year’s awards with Babi Yar. Context.
Further titles include A House Made Of Splinters, which won Simon Lereng Wilmont the directing award at Sundance; Magnus Gertten’s Nelly & Nadine, which picked up the Teddy jury award at this year’s Berlinale; Nataša Urban’s The Eclipse, winner of the top prize at CPH:Dox; and Bianca Stigter’s Three Minutes – A Lengthening, narrated by Helena Bonham Carter, which debuted at Venice 2021 before going on to play Toronto and Sundance among several other festivals.
The selection covers 15 European countries and the shortlist of nominations will be announced on November 8, based on votes by the European Film Academy’s 4,400 members.
The first wave of features selected for this year’s awards were revealed earlier this month.
The 35th European Film Awards will be presented on December 10 in Reykjavík, Iceland.
