Ewan McGregor is to star in UK drama series A Gentleman In Moscow for Paramount+, adapted from Amor Towles’ novel and due to start shooting later this year.
The project is produced by eOne in association with VIS, the international studio division of Paramount Global.
The series is written by showrunner and executive producer Ben Vanstone (The Last Kingdom), and stars McGregor as an aristocrat who finds himself on the wrong side of history after the Russian revolution.
The series will debut in 2023 on Paramount+ internationally, and on Showtime in the US.
It is the first production to come through eOne’s first look deal with Tom Harper’s company Popcorn Storm Pictures. Executive producers are Harper, McGregor, Towles and Xavier Marchand.
Paramount+ is aiming to commission 150 international originals by 2025. Other upcoming original dramas commissioned in the U.K. include The Flatshare, Sexy Beast, No Escape and The Burning Girls.
