EXCLUSIVE: SC Films swoops on 3D animation about an orphaned bird from writer Cory Edwards.
London-based SC Films will handle sales on new 3D animation Gus, which will feature the voices of Dakota Fanning, Seth Green, Richard Kind, Christine Baranski, Danny Glover and Elliot Gould.
The story follows a misunderstood orphan yellow bird, who unites a flock of migratory birds and leads them to Africa via the Arctic Circle.
Backing comes from TeamTO, Haut Et Court, Studio Canal, BackUp, Panache Productions, La Cie Cinématographique and SC Films.
The family animation, currently in production and due for a Christmas 2014 delivery, has been written by Antoine Barraud and Hoodwinked’s Cory Edwards.
Directors are Dominique Monfery (Eleanor’s Secret) and Christian De Vita, a storyboard artist on Frankenweenie and Fantastic Mr Fox.
Sales outfit Simon Crowe told ScreenDaily: “SC Films has a lot of experience handling theatrical animation features so I was really excited when I read this witty, visual and highly entertaining script from Antoine Barraud and Cory Edwards. This is a film for the entire family.”
StudioCanal, which will handle home entertainment rights in France, added: “Gus is first and foremost a family comedy; a journey viewers embark upon experiencing adventures alongside a gaggle of delightful characters.”
Producer Corinne Kouper commented:”Gus is both a fable, and a touching human comedy about self-realization.”
SC Films’ Cannes slate will also include Prana Studio’s Wish, Bullet, The Fold and I am Soldier.
