Two deals already announced from co-production market; over 250 attendees over the four-day period.
Montreal’s Fantasia International Film Festival’s inaugural Industry Rendez-Vous wrapped on Sunday (29), with two deals already announced out of its Frontières co-production market.
Alongside the already announced Blanc Biehn Productions’ English language remake of Chilean horror Hidden In The Woods - receiving its world premiere on Aug 6 at the festival - France’s Metaluna Production’s Fabrice Lambot made a deal with Québec’s TCB Films’ Simon Trottier for an international co-production of Séve. Fabrice Blin’s debut feature is set to begin shooting in Canada in 2013.
“I’m overjoyed that our first edition of the Rendez-Vous has already yielded results,” commented Stéphanie Trépanier [pictured], Fantasia’s Market Director. “Over the course of the weekend, I received many testimonies on how such an event, with a focus on genre film production, was missing from the festival circuit and how Frontières helped tremendously to bring attention to film projects and talents that need a little push in the right direction. I’m convinced that many more projects will ink deals over the course of the next few weeks.”
Other projects pitched during the Rendez-Vous included the likes of Justin Benson & Aaron Moorhead’s Strata, whose debut feature Resolution has proved to be one of the buzziest titles of this year’s festival, Jorge Michel Grau’s Keep Quiet and Sigma Films’ Perish, produced by Brian Coffey whose Citadel received its Canadian premiere at this year’s edition, following its Midnight Audience Award-winning premiere at SXSW.
Fantasia runs until Aug 9, with its 2012 programming featuring 160 films, including 20 world premieres, five international premieres and 12 North American premieres.
