‘Apples’

Cohen Media Group has acquired North American rights from CAA and Alpha Violet to Greek writer-director Christos Nikou’s autumn festival favourite Apples.

Cate Blanchett and partners Andrew Upton and Coco Francini have come on board as executive producers through their company Dirty Films after Blanchett presided over the jury at Venice Film Festival, where the film opened Horizons.

Apples also screened at Toronto and was a Telluride selection, and won best screenplay award at Chicago International Film Festival.

The story takes place as a pandemic causes people to develop sudden amnesia and a man in a recovery programme is instructed by doctors to perform daily tasks and photograph them on a Polaroid camera.

Nikou, an assistant director on Richard Linklater’s Before Midnight and Yorgos Lanthimos’ Dogtooth, co-wrote the screenplay with Stavros Raptis.

Cohen Media Group SVP Robert Aaronson brokered the deal for the company.
