Film Mode Entertainment has come on board to handle worldwide rights (excluding North America) to Manifest West and is giving the thriller its first market screenings at this week’s AFM.
Written and directed by Joe Dietsch and Louie Gibson, who previously teamed to make horror Western Happy Hunting, Manifest West centres on a seemingly normal family that moves into the North American wilderness to escape the pressures of society but cannot escape its own secrets.
Lexy Kolker, Annet Mahendru, Milo Gibson, Michael Cudlitz and Tim Heidecker star, with Bryson Pintard producing and Michael Tipps, Homan Taghdiri, Gibson, Dietsch and Joe Toronto serving as executive producers.
The film screened at last month’s Newport Beach festival and was recently acquired for North America by Samuel Goldwyn Films, which has set a November 11 release in cinemas and across digital platforms.
Film Mode president Clay Epstein commented: “We’re thrilled to be working with the amazing Manifest West team, both in front of and behind the camera. The film is a commercially viable top-quality thriller that raises the genre bar, that both buyers and audiences around the globe have been clamouring for.”
Dietsch and Gibson said: “We wanted to explore the idea of freedom in modern society. Is it still possible to move off the grid and have true autonomy, or are we too interdependent? The story is told through the eyes of very human characters, people who have moral shades of grey. Like everyone, they can be the heroes and villains in their own story.”
