UK-based Film Republic has secured international rights to Lithuanian director Eglė Vertelytė’s Tasty, the winner of the Screen International best pitch award at Tallinn’s Baltic Event in 2020.
Tasty is a comedy about two friends working in a canteen who take part in a cooking competition on TV. Principal photography will take place in Vilnius and Kaunas from October.
The €720,000 project has received development and production funding from the Lithuanian Film Centre (LFC).
It is produced by Viktorija Cook of Vilnius-based Inscript and a graduate of the UK’s National Film and Television School (NFTS). It will be co-produced by Latvian producer Alise Gelze’s new Riga-based production outfit White Picture which has applied to the National Film Centre of Latvia (NFC) for production support.
Lukas Trimonis, co-founder of Inscript, said the production will also be tappinh into Lithuania’s automatic tax incentive scheme as part of its financing plan.
Casting is now underway.
Film Republic’s head of sales Xavier Henry-Rashid said he had been attracted to the project by “a really great script with solid international appeal and lots of good marketing angles. It’s not the usual Baltic fare of depressing drama, but is actually quite upbeat with a story of ‘romance meets food meets possible love disaster’ - and it has a happy ending.“
The company previously handled Inscript’s 9th Step, the debut feature by Lithuania’s IIrma Pužauskaitė which shot in 2020.
