UK outfit Film Soho’s in-house production banner Captain Dolly has lined up its next project, road trip comedy and Marcus Shepherd’s debut feature The Monk, The Mermaid & Molise, a co-production with Italy’s Osna Productions and Play Entertainment.
It is currently in pre-production, and will star Guy Pratt – best known as bass player for bands such as Pink Floyd – as a fictionalised version of himself, alongside Raffaello Degruttola, Sally Phillips and Ronni Ancona.
The film follows Guy, down on his luck, as he accepts an invitation to spend five days playing a series of bass clinics in a remote Italian region, Molise, run by a super fan, and must face up to decisions from his past.
Pratt will write the music, with contributions from his previous musical collaborators.
Leila Mousavi, Ancona and Phillips will produce for Captain Dolly with Rino Piccolo producing for Osna Productions and Marco Tempera producing for Play Entertainment.
The project is the first to be awarded the film grant scheme by the region of Molise and will be shot in Italy and the UK.
International sales are being launched at EFM by Film Soho’s sales outfit Studio Soho International. Studio Soho will distribute in the UK with a planned release in 2024.
