Glen Basner’s FilmNation has further bulked up its Cannes sales slate with conspiracy thriller Conclave and the reboot of revenge thriller The Crow.
Conclave will star Ralph Fiennes, John Lithgow, Stanley Tucci, and Isabella Rossellini and takes place after the death of the Pope as reluctant Cardinal Lomeli is tasked with overseeing the group of Cardinals responsible for selecting a new leader for the Church while trying to uncover a secret the late Pontiff kept from them.
Fiennes is set to play Lomeli, Lithgow will play Cardinal Tremblay, Tucci will play Cardinal Bellini and Rossellini will play Sister Agnes.
Edward Berger will direct from a screenplay by Peter Straughan based on Robert Harris’s novel of the same name. The film is being produced by House Productions and FilmNation Entertainment. FilmNation will launch international sales and jointly represents US rights with CAA Media Finance. The project was developed with the support of Access Entertainment.
Bill Skarsgard will star alongside FKA Twigs in the retelling of the graphic novel about a murder victim who returns from the dead to avenge the deaths of his murder and that of his fiancée.
Rupert Sanders, whose credits include Snow White And The Huntsman, will direct from the screenplay by King Richard writer Zach Baylin. Molly Hassell, Victor Hadida, John Jencks and Ed Pressman, who produced the original Crow in 1994 that starred Brandon Lee, who died during production.
According to reports production is anticipated to start this summer in Prague, Czech Republic, and locations in Germany. CAA Media Finance handles US rights.
The Cannes sales slate includes Woody Harrelson, Simu Liu and Djimon Hounsou trapped diver thriller Last Breath, Michael Keaton starring in and directing the noir Knox Goes Away, and sci-fi romance Fingernails starring Riz Ahmed and Jessie Buckley.
