Films in Progress, the event for Latin American films in post-production organised by Lima Film Festival PUCP and Cinélatino Rencontres de Toulouse, has unveiled the winning films at its 40th edition.
The Official Films In Progress Jury Award went to Augusto Zegarra’s Peruvian drama Hakuchu Munayta. Claudia Chávez and Paloma Iturriaga produced the story about of a young indigenous voice artist who sets out with his son to ask Disney to dub The Lion King in Quechua.
The film receives $4,000 awarded by the Entity for the Management of Rights of Audiovisual Producers - EGEDA Peru, and among other perks will get his film converted to DCP and Blu-ray.
Pedro Diógenes’s Brazilian film The Clown’s Daughter won the Makaco – Gamma Award Awards and receives editing, post-production and colour correction for the trailer, awarded by Peruvian post-production companies Makaco and Gamma.
The story centres on a 14-year-old who has to spend a week with her father, a comedian who performs his shows in steakhouses, bars and nightclubs in Fortaleza, dressed as the character Silvanelly. Producers are Caroline Louise and Amanda Pontes.
The event ran from August 23-28 as part of Cine del Mañana, the Industry section of the Lima Film Festival PUCP. Six Latin American films participated after they were selected by the Lima and Toulouse committees from 128 feature submissions.
