The Cove director Fisher Stevens is to direct a docu-series about David Beckham for Netflix. Fisher is also executive producing alongside Searching For Sugar Man producer John Battsek.
The multi-part series is in production and will chart the footballer’s life and career using never-before-seen footage and interviews with Beckham, his family and friends, and other key figures. No release date has been set.
The series is produced by Beckham’s production company Studio 99, in association with Battsek’s Ventureland.
Battsek was at Passion Pictures for 20 years before setting up his own production company in 2020 with Kerstin Emhoff, Ali Brown, and director Paul Hunter. Ventureland has since produced documentaries The Rescue, Sir Alex Ferguson: Never Give In and The Real Charlie Chaplin.
Studio 99 is also co-producing a Disney+ series Save Our Squad that Beckham will present.
