In the latest example of a studio pulling a summer release from the theatrical schedule while uncertainty prevails over when theatres will reopen, Focus Features has postponed the July launch of horror film Come Play.
The feature was scheduled to open on July 24 and will now debut on October 30 for Halloween as the autumn corridor continues to stack up with delayed releases.
Newcomer Azhy Robertson stars as Oliver, a lonely boy who seeks solace in his electronic devices and encounters a mysterious entity that wants to enter our world through his phone and tablet.
Gillian Jacobs and John Gallagher Jr. play the youngster’s parents who fight to save their son from the creature.
Jacob Chase wrote and directed Come Play, which is produced by Amblin Partners, Alex Heineman, and Andrew Rona.
Summer season is currently scheduled to open on July 1 with Russell Crowe psychological thriller Unhinged from Solstice Studios, before Christopher Nolan’s thriller Tenet is lined up to open through Warner Bros on July 17, followed by Disney’s live-action Mulan one week later.
