Christian Vesper is to take responsibility for Fremantle’s network of scripted labels following a promotion to chief executive of global drama.

In the newly-created position, the former president of global drama will be handed oversight of Miso Film, Wildside, The Apartment, Element Pictures, Lux Vide, Dancing Ledge Productions and Passenger while continuing to develop Fremantle’s drama and film portfolio.

Vesper is also charged with overseeing the company’s roster of talent partnerships and deals, including Sinestra, the indie recently launched by Chernobyl director Johan Renck and Michael Paret, Michael Winterbottom’s Revolution Films, Afua Hirsch’s Born In Me and The Creatives, Fremantle’s three-year creative agreement with an alliance of nine leading indies.

He will continue to report to Andrea Scrosati, group chief operating officer and chief exec of continental Europe.

Vesper and his London-based team will continue to support Fremantle’s broader drama initiatives and work with the regional drama heads at the likes of Fremantle Australia, Abot Hameiri, Fremantle Mexico and UFA in Germany.

He will also play a role in the company’s film strategy, working with producers on projects such as Element’s On Becoming A Guinea Fowl.

Vesper joined Fremantle in 2016 as executive vice president and creative director of global drama and was promoted to president in 2020. Prior to joining Fremantle, he was drama boss at Sundance TV, where he oversaw Top of the Lake, The Honourable Woman, Deutschland 83 and Rectify.

Vesper said: “Over the last seven years, I have been lucky enough to be a part of Fremantle’s growth in the scripted business and am proud to be part of us having increased the number of dramas we have delivered from around 30 projects in 2016, to over 100 projects in 2022. I can’t wait to continue the journey of growth and quality.”

Scrosati said that the role was created as part of a restructure to better support its labels.
