The eighth and final season of Game Of Thrones will not return until 2019, HBO has confirmed.
In a statement the cable service said the series will be a six-episode run.
They also announced that David Benioff, D.B. Weiss, David Nutter and Miguel Sapochnik will be on directing duties, with the writing team consisting of Benioff, Weiss, Bryan Cogman and Dave Hill.
The finale of season 7, The Dragon And The Wolf, aired on August 27, 2017.
Back in May, HBO announced plan to develop four potential offshoots of Game Of Thrones with the main series coming to an end.
They did not specify if the projects would be spin-offs, prequels or sequels, noting only that each project will explore different time periods of Martin’s “vast and rich universe”.
Writers attached at the time were author George R.R. Martin, Max Borenstein, Jane Goldman, Brian Helgeland and Carly Wray.
