US-based Jackrabbit Media is engaging with AFM buyers on a slate of six genre features including festival winners from Portugal’s Fantasporto Film Festival and Fantasia Film Festival in Montreal.
Sylvia Caminer’s psychological thriller Follow Her won best film at Fantasporto in April and centres on a live streamer who accepts an invitation to go to a remote cabin and finds herself in the middle of a twisted revenge plot. Dani Barker wrote the screenplay.
Fantasia international feature winner The Artifice Girl follows an internet vigilante who develops a revolutionary computer programme to combat online predators, raising ethical questions about autonomy and what it means to be human. Franklin Ritch makes his feature directing debut on the sci-fi.
Dramatic thriller The Mental State directed by James Camali tells of a Kentucky high school senior and his family struggling to cope with the true identity and intentions of a town shooter.
Manny Perez’s 2021 TIFF selection and romantic thriller La Soga: Salvation is the sequel to 2009 Dominican crime drama La Soga and centres on a retired hitman who returns to his old life to take on a crew of dangerous killers, including one assassin who has waited for the chance to even the score. Screen Media distributed in the US.
Summoners is a female-led horror film from Terence Krey based on Christine Nyland’s screenplay about two childhood friends who reunite in their hometown after 10 years. One, a former witch, grapples with her late mother’s secrets when the friend asks her to help perform a dark spell.
Shaky Shivers is styled as a comedic send-up of 1980’s horror films and follows two young women at an abandoned camp in the woods surrounded by classic monsters with only a book of magical spells to keep them alive. Sung Kang makes his directing debut.
Jackrabbit Media holds worldwide rights to The Mental State, Summoners and Shaky Shivers, and international rights to the remaining three.
