Gerard Butler is in negotiations to play the lead in the disaster thriller Greenland and will reunite with his Angel Has Fallen director Ric Roman Waugh. STX International represents international rights to the repackaged project at EFM.
Greenland centres on one family’s fight for survival in the face of a cataclysmic natural disaster and is set to begin shooting in Toronto in May.
Thunder Road Films’ Basil Iwanyk developed the project and produces, alongside Butler and Alan Siegel through their G-BASE production company. Anton is fully financing with Anton’s Sébastien Raybaud and Harold van Lier on board as executive producers.
CAA Media Finance arranged the film’s financing and represents US rights alongside Anton. STX will distribute directly in the UK.
Butler and Waugh most recently collaborated on the upcoming Angel Has Fallen.
Waugh recently produced, wrote and directed the prison drama Shot Caller starring Nikolaj Coster-Waldau from Game Of Thrones. His credits include and directed the thriller Snitch starring Dwayne Johnson, as well as Felon, and the Special Forces PTSD documentary That Which I Love Destroys Me.
