The Golden Globes is moving back to its traditional Sunday slot, setting a date of January 7 for its 2024 awards ceremony.
This year’s 80th Globe Awards ceremony took place on Tuesday, January 10, with US broadcast network NBC reportedly keen to preserve advertising revenue from its Sunday evening American football coverage.
However the live broadcast of the ceremony drew only 6.3m people, the second-lowest audience in the show’s history, according to numbers released by Nielsen. According to the Globes organisation, the ceremony got more than 24.2bn impressions on social media platforms worldwide.
Produced by Dick Clark Productions and voted on by members of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA), the Golden Globes moved to reclaim its position at the start of awards season this year. The 2022 show was held behind closed doors amid a Hollywood boycott stemming from a 2021 Los Angeles Times expose about the HFPA.
The announcement of next year’s Globes date made no mention of a US broadcast or streaming partner for the event, though discussions with outlets are reportedly in progress. NBC has been the event’s US broadcast partner since 1996.
