Universal will release Halloween Ends in theatres and day-and-date on Peacock, mirroring the release for Halloween Kills a year ago when Covid cases were higher.
The horror film from Universal Pictures, Miramax, and Blumhouse will open on October 14 and stars Jamie Lee Curtis in her final outing in the 45-year franchise.
Curtis reprises her role as Laurie Strode, who faces off for the last time against Michael Myers. The story takes place four years after events in 2021 release Halloween Kills as Strode lives with her granddaughter Allyson (Andi Matichak) and is finishing her memoir.
Rohan Campbell also stars alongside returning cast Will Patton as Officer Frank Hawkins, Kyle Richards as Lindsey Wallace and James Jude Courtney as The Shape.
David Gordon Green directed from a screenplay by Paul Brad Logan, Chris Bernier, Danny McBride and Green, based on characters created by John Carpenter and Debra Hill.
The film marks the finale in the Halloween reboot series from Green and Blumhouse founder Jason Blum. The 2018 Halloween reboot grossed $255m worldwide while Halloween Kills earned $131m.
Curtis announced the distribution plan on social media on Tuesday (August 23) and spoke of “great results both from box office and streaming”. Time will tell how exhibitors will respond to the distribution strategy at a time when Covid cases have been receding and theatres have reopened fully.
