Henry Golding (Crazy Rich Asians) will star in the sci-fi romance Daniela Forever from Colossal director Nacho Vigalondo as the producers gear up for a Madrid shoot in spring/summer. XYZ Films is financing and will introduce the project to EFM buyers next week.
The story follows a man (Golding) struggling to come to terms with the accidental death of his girlfriend who signs up for a sleep trial that would allow him to reconstruct his life with his girlfriend through lucid dreams.
Nahikari Ipiña and Vigalondo are producing for Sayaka Producciones, along with Benoit Roland at Wrong Men, Leire Apellaniz at Señor y Señora, and XYZ Films.
“This movie is built around a deeply human character trapped in twisted plot, something Henry Golding is so perfect for this almost feels unreal,” said Vigalondo, whose directing credits include Timecrimes and Extraterrestrial. “I’m enthusiastic about the team gathered around this project, and I hope the story delivers everything I want to say about love, dreams and Madrid.”
“We’re thrilled to be a part of this project. Nacho and Henry are a dream fit for what promises to be an unforgettable film,” said XYZ.
Golding has also starred in Simple Favor, Netflix’s Persuasion and Downtown Owl. He recently wrapped filming Netflix’s Old Guard 2 opposite Charlize Theron and Uma Thurman, and played the lead in the upcoming Assassin Club for Paramount. Next up Golding will star for Guy Ritchie on the Second World War drama Ministry.
XYZ’s current projects include Sundance selection Run Rabbit Run starring Sarah Snook which recently sold to Netflix; Berlin competition entry Blackberry from Matt Johnson; and The Wasp starring Naomie Harris and Natalie Dormer.
The slate also includes Nick Cassavetes’ God Is A Bullet starring Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, Maika Monroe and Jamie Foxx; Nocebo directed by Lorcan Finnegan with Eva Green and Mark Strong; and Accused from Boiling Point director Phillip Barantini. XYZ is in post-production on the Netflix Original Havoc directed by Gareth Evans and starring Tom Hardy and Forrest Whitaker.
