The Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA) is proceeding with its awards show and has set its 79th Annual Golden Globes for January 9, 2022, provoking a harsh rebuke from the head of the Critics Choice Awards which back in May set the same date for its show.
The HFPA will announce film and TV nominations on December 13. According to its awards season timetable published on Friday (October 15) a submission website for film and TV entries will open on Monday October 18.
However the HFPA’s move to share the ceremony date with the Critics Choice Awards has angered the latter’s president. Joey Berlin told Deadline Hollywood it was “petty and vindictive” and “an insult to the industry”, adding that studios had committed to his group’s 27th annual awards show which he asserted would “kick off awards season in style”.
At time of writing it remained unclear whether the Globes will be broadcast after regular partner NBC withdrew from the telecast following a Los Angeles Times exposé of internal issues and the composition of the group’s membership. The HFPA has said it has implemented ongoing reforms.
Also unclear was whether awards publicists will allow their clients to engage with the HFPA after they said they would not do so until there were significant reforms.
