Jonas Holmberg has succeeded Marit Kapla as the new artistic director at the Göteborg International Film Festival.
Jonas Holmberg, the international programme director at Sweden’s Göteborg International Film Festival, has been named artistic director of the event with immediate effect. He succeeds Marit Kapla, who will become responsible for the festival’s new digital film channel.
“Holmberg has exactly what it takes to carry the festival’s profile into a new era – at the same time we are happy to keep Kapla’s experience and expertise,” said festival chairman Sven-Olof Bodenfors.
Holmberg was a founder of film magazine FLM, where he was the head editor from 2007 to 2012. He is also a regular contributor to culture section of the daily newspaper Expressen.
“I would like to continue strengthening Göteborg’s position as the most important film festival in the Nordic countries,” he declared
Kapla, who has worked as the festival’s artistic director since 2007, will further develop the digital film channel, which the festival launched last autumn to give Swedish audiences a year-round access to the festival’s film selection from across the world.
“Now felt like the perfect time to take this step,” said Kapla.
