Lithuanian director Egle Vertelytė’s culinary comedy Tasty, which won the Screen International Best Pitch Award at Tallinn’s Baltic Event co-production market in 2020, has wrapped production after a 25-day shoot in Vilnius.
The screenplay by Vertelytė and Irena Kunevicuite centres on two women chefs from a small canteen in Kaunas whose close friendship is put to the test when they enter into a televised cooking competition and a new love interest threatens to tear them apart.
Tasty stars Agnieska Ravdo whose previous film credits have included Andrius Blazevicius’ 2016 drama The Saint and Kristijonas Vildziuinas’ Songs For A Fox which premiered at the Black Nights festival last year. Stage actress Elena Ozarinskaitė makes her film debut.
The film is produced by Vilnius-based INSCRIPT, with backing the Lithuanian Film Centre, the Lithuanian tax incentive programme, national public broadcaster LRT and local distributor Acme Films. Estonia’s Nafta Films coming onboard as a co-producer. UK-based Film Republic is handling international sales.
Tasty is Vertelytė’s second feature film after her successful debut Miracle from 2017.
She is also the screenwriter on Irma Pužauskaitė’s feature debut The 9th Step, which had its world premiere in the U18 Youth Film competition at last week’s FilmFestival Cottbus and is now screening in the Children’s Rights programme at Black Nights in Tallinn.
