In their spring selection round, the Hubert Bals Fund (HBF) of International Film Festival Rotterdam has given grants for script development to eleven film projects.

Among the projects supported include new projects from filmmakers previously supported by the HBF such as Argentina’s Alejandro Fadel, Georgia’s Rusudan Pirveli, Mexico’s Matías Meyer, Iran’s Majid Barzegar and the Philippines’ Shireen Seno.

The HBF has also supported Armenian Nora Martirosyan’s feature debut Territoria and Colombian Cesar Acevedo’s debut Land and Shade.

In total, this round sees the fund give €100,000 to projects from nine countries in Asia, Africa and Latin America.

Additionally, a selection of HBF-supported projects will be picked for Boost!, the coaching initiative of the HBF, CineMart and Rotterdam Lab, in cooperation with Binger FilmLab.

Supported by MEDIA Mundus, the initiative will see five HBF-supported filmmakers given the possibility to further develop their scripts at Binger Filmlab. These projects, to be announced soon, will also participate in co-production markets and workshops in India, Argentina or South Africa, after which they take part in CineMart or Rotterdam Lab during IFFR 2014.

This year, three new partners will join Boost!: the National Film Development Corporation of India, Fundacion TyPA in Argentina and the Durban FilmMart in South Africa.
