The Independent Cinema Organisation and the Film Distributor’s Association (FDA) have teamed to create a distribution workshop, funded by Creative Skillset, taking place from April 17-19 in London.
The three-day intensive workshop will be designed to provide emerging film producers with greater knowledge and understanding of the film distribution and exhibition sectors. It will feature a mix of lectures, open forum discussion and case studies.
Participants should currently be working on a film project - from an initial idea to post production - which they will be able to discuss, develop and seek advice on during the three days.
Specific areas covered will be acquisitions, sales agents, revenue, self-distribution and international theatrical exhibition, along with others.
A total of 20 places are available for UK-based film producers and those who wish to participate should have already completed one feature from any genre, animation, documentary or other work predominantly in the film industry.
The course will be directed by Julia Short, head of acquisitions at The Works, who has a long background in advertising and consumer PR.
Other industry professionals will include Alex Stolz (senior executive for distribution and exhibition, BFI), John Trafford-Owen (head of theatrical distribution, Studiocanal UK), Matt Smith (head of distribution, Lionsgate UK), and Andrew Orr (managing director, Soda Pictures) among others.
