IFC Films has picked up North American rights from Endeavor Content and Film Constellation to 2020 Sundance Institute Producer’s Award winner Farewell Amor.
Sundance Institute fellow Ekwa Msangi wrote and directed his feature debut about an Angolan immigrant who reunites with his family in New York after 17 years in exile.
Ntare Guma Mbaho Mwine, Zainab Jah, Jayme Lawson, Joie Lee, Marcus Scribner, and Nana Mensah star.
Farewell Amor premiered at 2020 Sundance Film Festival in the U.S. Dramatic Competition Section where it won the aforementioned award on behalf of producer Huriyyah Muhammad (Outrageous Pictures).
Producing partners include Sam Bisbee (Park Pictures), Josh Penn (Department of Motion Pictures), Msangi (Outrageous Pictures), Joe Plummer (Wavelength Productions), and Bobby Allen (MUBI).
IFC Films plans a December release. After EVP of acquisitions and productions Arianna Bocco negotiated the deal with Endeavor Content, Film Constellation, and Cassian Elwes on behalf of the filmmakers.
