‘Hey Joe’

EXCLUSIVE: Glass House Distribution has acquired North American rights to Hey Joe, starring James Franco.

The deal was finalised at the Marché du Film in Cannes with Italy’s Vision Distribution.

Hey Joe is directed by Italian filmmaker Claudio Giovannesi, who won the Silver Bear for best screenplay for Fiore at the 2019 Berlinale.

It tells the story an American Second World War veteran, played by Franco, who returns to Naples decades later to reconnect with a son he never knew he had—only to discover the young man is now entangled in the criminal underworld.

The film had its world premiere at the 2024 Rome Film Festival.

Glass House Distribution plans to release Hey Joe in late 2025, targeting both theatrical and digital platforms.

“We were captivated by Hey Joe from the first screening,” said Tom Malloy, president of Glass House Distribution. “It’s a rare blend of American and Italian storytelling, grounded by an emotionally resonant performance from James Franco. We believe this film will resonate strongly with audiences and critics alike during awards season.”

Hey Joe is produced by Palomar (a Mediawan company) and Rai Cinema with Vision Distribution with support from the Calabria and Campania Film Commissions.
