Renner underwent surgery on the evening of Monday, January 2, having sustained what his family described in a statement as ‘blunt chest trauma and orthopedic injuries’ in the accident by his home near Lake Tahoe, on the border of California.

Yesterday, his family said he was out of surgery and in a ‘critical but stable condition’ in intensive care after the actor was airlifted to hospital on Sunday

The statement from his family added: “Jeremy’s family would like to express their gratitude to the incredible doctors and nurses looking after him, Truckee Meadows Fire and Rescue, Washoe County Sheriff, Reno City Mayor Hillary Schieve and the Carano and Murdock families. They are also tremendously overwhelmed and appreciative of the outpouring of love and support from his fans.”

Renner is best known for his work on the Avengers series, playing Clint ‘Hawkeye’ Barton in six films including Avengers: Endgame. He was nominated for the Oscar for best actor for 2008’s The Hurt Locker, and for best supporting actor for 2010’s The Town; while he currently stars in Paramount+ series Mayor Of Kingstown, which is due to debut its second season from January 15.
