John Cena, Awkwafina, and Simu Liu will star in Prime Video’s action comedy Grand Death Lotto from director Paul Feig.
Production is scheduled to commence next week. Feig directs from a screenplay by Rob Yescombe (Outside The Wire) set in a financially stricken California in the near future where residents are allowed to kill the winner of the state’s lottery before sundown in order to claim the prize.
Newly arrived in the state, lottery winner Katie (Awkwafina) must join forces with amateur jackpot protector Noel (Cena) to make it to sundown in order to claim her multi-billion dollar prize. Liu plays Louis Lewis, Noel’s protection rival who also wants to keep Katie safe and claim his rich protection commission.
The Amazon Studios title is being produced by Roth/Kirschenbaum Films’ Joe Roth and Jeff Kirschenbaum, and Feigco Entertainment’s Laura Fischer and Feig. Cena, Zack Roth, and Yescombe serve as executive producers.
Cena recently starred in the series Peacemaker and his upcoming credits include Fast X, Argylle, Ricky Stanicky, and the sequel to Vacation Friends.
Awkwafina (The Farewell, Crazy Rich Asians) will next be seen in Renfield opposite Nicolas Cage and The Little Mermaid, and the third season of Nora From Queens.
Liu’s credits include Shang-Chi And The Legend Of The Ten Rings and the upcoming Barbie feature. Feig directed Bridesmaids, Last Christmas, The Heat, Ghostbusters, Spy, as well as Netflix’s The School For Good And Evil.
