The world premiere of Jordan Peele’s Get Out follow-up Us will open the 26th edition of the SXSW Film Festival on March 8 in Austin, Texas.
“We are crazy excited to world premiere the most anticipated film of 2019 from the creative powerhouse that brought us Get Out,” said SXSW director of film Janet Pierson. “We honestly couldn’t imagine a more perfect film to kick off the 2019 SXSW Film Festival.”
Us, Peele’s horror follow-up to Sundance 2017 premiere Get Out, stars Lupita Nyong’o, Winston Duke, Shahadi Wright Joseph, and Evan Alex as a family on a northern California getaway who are terrorised by their doppelgängers.
Elisabeth Moss, Tim Heidecker, Cali Sheldon, Noelle Sheldon round out the key cast. Peele directed Us from his original screenplay, and produced through his Monkeypaw Productions, alongside Monkeypaw creative director Ian Cooper, in the company’s first solo production venture. Sean McKittrick and Jason Blum also produced.
Universal Pictures will release Us on March 22 SXSW Film Festival will release its feature slate on January 16, and the Midnighters, Festival Favorites, Shorts, Episodic Pilot Competition, Virtual Cinema, Music Videos and Title Sequence Competition sections on February 6. SXSW runs from March 8–17.
