Katie Holmes will star in horror-thriller The Boy 2 that STXfilms and Lakeshore will introduce to AFM buyers next week.
STX Entertainment is co-producing with Lakeshore and the companies will handle international sales jointly. This is their third collaboration after the Jennifer Garner action thriller Peppermint and survival romance Adrift with Shailene Woodley and Sam Clafin.
Principal photography is scheduled to begin in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada, on January 14, 2019, on the story of a young family that moves into the Heelshire Mansion, unaware of its terrifying past. As they settle into the estate, the family’s young son forms a bond with an eerie lifelike doll he calls Brahms.
William Brent Bell is returning to direct after The Boy grossed $64.2m worldwide on a budget of less than $15m. Stacey Menear returns to write the screenplay. Lakeshore’s Tom Rosenberg, Gary Lucchesi and Eric Reid are producing, alongside Matt Berenson, Jim Wedaa, and Roy Lee.
“Following the success of The Boy, we are thrilled to be working on the next chapter of this chilling Brahms story with Stacey and William,” said Lucchesi. “We are also delighted to be continuing our relationship with STX, on this, our third partnership.”
Holmes broke out with the TV series Dawson’s Creek and has starred in Pieces Of April, Batman Begins and TV show Ray Donovan, among others. She will next be seen alongside Patrick Stewart in the musical drama Coda.
Bell also directed The Devil Inside and is developing multiple projects including the TV series Posthumans for Blumhouse Productions.
