Alex Garland’s sci-fi drama judges edges Matthew Vaughn’s spy thriller.
Sci-fi drama Ex Machina has taken the lead on social media in the UK after a week on release, just a hair ahead of new release Kingsman: The Secret Service.
Alex Gardand’s tale of artificial intelligence generated 6,659 comments from Jan 22-28 across social media, news, forums and blogs, according to Way To Blue.
Matthew Vaughan’s spy adventure, starring Colin Firth, was just behind with 6,645 comments.
However, while Ex Machina saw 23.5% of comments expressing intent to view, Kingsman managed 26.8%.
Other films opening this week that proved popular included Disney animation Big Hero 6, with close to 3,200 comments, and Paul Thomas Anderson’s Inherent Vice, with more than 1,900 comments.
On its second week of release, Johnny Depp comedy caper Mortdecai drew more than 3,900 comments, just 18.7% of which expressed intent to view.
Of the movies coming soon, Aardman Animations’ Shaun the Sheep Movie drew 2,450 comments, beating the Wachowskis Jupiter Ascending (1,968) and Martin Luther King Jr biopic Selma (1,097).
