Kino Lorber has acquired worldwide rights to Sundance-bound Afrofuturist musical Neptune Frost, the Cannes Directors’ Fortnight selection co-directed by Saul Williams and Anisia Uzeyman.
The distributor will release Neptune Frost theatrically in the US in 2022, followed by a digital release on Kino Now, TVoD home video. International sales talks will commence at Sundance, where it screens in Spotlight next month, and Berlin.
Neptune Frost takes place in the hilltops of Burundi where a collective of computer hackers emerges from a mining community, the result of a romance between a miner and an intersex runaway. The film went on to screen at TIFF and NYFF.
Actor Ezra Miller, theater producer Stephen Hendel, and Lin-Manuel Miranda are among the film’s producers.
Kino Lorber CEO Richard Lorber and SVP Wendy Lidell negotiated the deal with CAA Media Finance.
Lorber said the film of “exceptional visual and aural originality… rewards being experienced on the biggest screen possible.”
