EXCLUSIVE: Saturation release planned for November, commemorating 50 years since the assassination of President John F Kennedy.
Koch Media has acquired Parkland from Exclusive Media for distribution in the UK. A saturation release is planned for November 8.
Currently in post-production, the film recounts the events that occurred at Parkland Hospital in Dallas on the day President John F Kennedy was assassinated, November 22, 1963.
Based on the book Four Days In November by Vincent Bugliosi, the adapted screenplay is written by award-winning journalist and novelist Peter Landesman, who is marking his directorial debut.
The dramatic thriller is produced by Playtone partners Tom Hanks and Gary Goetzman, as well as Exclusive Media, and The American Film Company.
Parkland stars Zac Efron, Marcia Gay Harden, Billy Bob Thornton, Jacki Weaver and Paul Giamatti as well as Ron Livingston, Mark Duplass and Colin Hanks.
Exclusive Media has previously licensed the drama to Sony Pictures Worldwide Acquisitions for Eastern Europe, Scandinavia, Iceland, Greece, Turkey and Latin America.
Other deals will see the film distributed in Australia and New Zealand (Roadshow); France (Metropolitan); Italy (RAI); Israel (United King); Hong Kong (Golden Harvest); India and Pakistan (Tanweer); Indonesia (PT Amero); the Philippines (Captive); Singapore (Golden Village); Taiwan (Catchplay); Thailand (M Pictures); and the Baltic States (ACME).
The film will be released 50 years after President Kennedy was assassinated.
Thomas Hedman, Koch Media’s business development director, said: “Parkland is a very exciting proposition for us. Not only is it produced by a company with excellent pedigree, but with a cast that offers strength in depth and this year marking such an important milestone in history, we have a unique opportunity to bring the story to a broad UK audience.”
On current and future releases, Hedman added: “Koch’s slate has built considerably of late, with strong, quality films such as Thanks For Sharing, Magic Magic and The Frozen Ground set for release this year. We are exploring a number of other high calibre films at the moment so anticipate a busy and fruitful year ahead for the company.”
Other new acquisitions for Koch include home entertainment horror titles Cheap Thrills and V/H/S-2, a follow up to the popular cult horror V/H/S. Both films are set for release close to Halloween and will debut at FrightFest this August.
