Lady Macbeth star Florence Pugh has signed up to play the lead in the untitled next film from Hereditary director Ari Aster.
Pugh revealed the news at the press event promoting her upcoming BBC series Little Drummer Girl, and confirmed the news on Twitter, saying: “What a role this will be…god am I pumped/nervous/can’t believe this is happening.”
A24’s horror Hereditary, starring Toni Collette, has been a hit for US indie A24, making $79m worldwide so far.
Aster’s follow-up will be once again financed and distributed by A24. Aster wrote the script with Lars Knudsen producing.
Pugh, a former Screen Star Of Tomorrow, won a best actress British Independent Film Award (BIFA) in 2017 for Lady Macbeth and was also nominated for the Bafta Rising Star award in the same year.
Her other upcoming roles include Netflix feature Outlaw King, starring Chris Pine as Robert the Bruce, and Film4’s wrestling comedy Fighting With My Family directed by Stephen Merchant and starring Dwayne Johnson.
