Warsaw-based New Europe Film Sales has boarded world rights to Latvia-Poland family animation Jacob, Mimmi And The Talking Dogs.
Directed by Edmunds Jansons, the film was pitched at Cartoon Movie in France and Warsaw Kids Forum at concept stage. It is currently in post-production and set for delivery in the first half of 2019.
New Europe has also inked an early deal for French rights with Les Films de Preau.
In the film, a young boy dreams of becoming an architect like his busy dad. One day, with his dad away on business, the boy discovers that his local park is going to be transformed into skyscrapers by a greedy businessman. He teams up with his cousin and a pack of local talking dogs to stop the development.
Jacob, Mimmi And The Talking Dogs is produced by Sabine Andersone at Atom Art Studio in Latvia and co-produced by Jakub Karwowski from Polish studio Letko. It has been supported by the National Film Centre of Latvia, Polish Film Institute and Creative Europe Media.
The film is part of the ‘Latvian Films for Latvian Centenary’ program, which celebrates the country’s 100 years of existence.
New Europe and Atom Art previously collaborated on director Jansons’ short animation Isle Of Seals.
The sales company’s previous animation work includes Berlinale Generation-selected Swedish feature Gordon & Paddy and Norwegian box office hit Cattle Hill.
New Europe is attending this month’s Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival in Estonia.
