Modern Films has acquired UK-Ireland distribution rights on two films that will play in next month’s BFI London Film Festival (LFF, October 5-16).
From Memento Films, It has picked up Kristoffer Borgli’s Sick Of Myself, which will debut in the Laugh strand. Produced by The Worst Person In The World producers Dyveke Bjorkly Graver and Andrea Berentsen Ottmar, the film follows a couple in an unhealthy competitive relationship that takes a turn when one of them breaks through as a contemporary artist.
It debuted in Un Certain Regard at Cannes in May, and is Los Angeles-based Norwegian director Borgli’s second feature after 2017 SXSW title Drib.
Modern has also acquired Emily Atef’s More Than Ever from The Match Factory. It is last film appearance of actor Gaspard Ulliel, who stars opposite Vicky Krieps and who died in a skiing accident in January this year.
German-French co-production More Than Ever was another Cannes 2022 Un Certain Regard debut; it is Atef’s fifth feature, and her first since 2018 Berlinale Competition entry 3 Days In Quiberon, which Modern also distributed.
Modern Films founder and CEO Eve Gabereau said she is “ready to delve into the campaigns on both these films as they offer such distinct voices in cinema and deep dive into the subconscious in highly evocative, even provocative, ways.”
The full LFF programme was announced this morning.
