Cinedigm Digital Cinema and National Geographic Entertainment are to release Life in a Day to digital cinemas across the US on July 24, five days before National Geographic gives the user-generated documentary its traditional US theatrical launch.
A select number of the digital theatres will participate in a live interactive segment with the film’s creators following the premiere screenings.
Directed by Kevin Macdonald and executive produced by Ridley Scott, Life in a Day consists of footage selected from more than 80,000 videos shot by YouTube contributors around the world on July 24, 2010.
“We saw this one-day special event on July 24 as a wonderful way to ‘premiere’ this movie prior to its more traditional theatrical release,” said National Geographic Entertainment president Daniel Battsek. “Many locations will be able to take part in a live experience where they can interact with the filmmakers directly, asking questions and getting unique insights.”
