Lionsgate and Gold Circle will co-produce supernatural thriller The Devil’s Light, which Lionsgate will distribute in North America, the UK and Latin America, and Lionsgate International will introduce to AFM buyers next week.
James Hawes (Black Mirror, Penny Dreadful) will direct from a screenplay by Robert Zappia (Halloween H20) about a young nun at an exorcism training centre in the US whose remarkable powers are unleashed when she encounters a highly disturbed patient.
Gold Circle founder Paul Brooks (Pitch Perfect franchise, The Haunting in Connecticut) is producing with Jessica Malanaphy, Todd Jones and Earl Richey Jones, and executive producers are Scott Niemeyer, David Brooks and Brad Kessell.
Production is scheduled to commence in the first half of 2020, and Meredith Wieck and Eda Kowan will oversee on behalf of Lionsgate.
Lionsgate president of acquisitions and co-productions Jason Constantine negotiated the deal for the studio with Kowan, executive vice-president of acquisitions and co-productions.
