In a move to roll out its premium pay-TV brand Starz into the global marketplace, Lionsgate is launching Starzplay branded channels in the UK and Germany on Amazon Prime Video.
The channels are already carrying new Starz original drama series Vida (pictured) and Sweetbitter, both of which debuted in the US on May 6, and will offer all future Starz originals exclusively on the same day they launch in the US.
Other content on the channels will include such older series as Boss, Survivor’s Remorse, The Royals, Houdini andRosemary’s Baby.
Movies on the UK channel will include The Hunger Games, 3:10 To Yuma, Bend It Like Beckham and Dirty Dancing, while the German line-up will include The Princess Bride, American Psycho, Reservoir Dogs and Dune.
The Starzplay channels will be available to Amazon Prime members for £4.99 a month in the UK and €4.99 a month in Germany.
The new channels are separate from the Starz Play OTT service, in which Starz is an investor, operating in Arabia.
In a statement, Starz president and CEO Chris Albrecht said: “The launch of Starzplay on Amazon in the UK and Germany marks a significant expansion of the Starz platform into the global market, providing an exciting opportunity for us to build on the success of our relationship with Amazon Prime Video Channels. These new channels allow us to extend the reach of our storytelling and bring the growing portfolio of Starz original series as well our extensive library of hit TV series and movies to a new audience.”
Amazon Prime Video European managing director of channels and sport Alex Green added: “Since launching Prime Video Channels in the UK and Germany a year ago, we continue to build on the selection of live and on demand TV channels for Prime members with over 120 channels across Europe, so it couldn’t be more fitting that today we celebrate by bringing customers Starzplay.”
