Producer Cassian Elwes has signed a multiyear, first-look deal with Lionsgate to develop and produce scripted and unscripted television series under his new Elevated TV banner.
The arrangement is the first TV deal for Elwes, producer of awards contender Mudbound and The Butler, and an executive producer on projects including Dallas Buyers Club and Margin Call.
Lionsgate executive vice-president and head of worldwide scripted television Chris Selak and executive vice-president of alternative programming Jennifer O’Connell said they were “thrilled to extend our longstanding relationship with Cassian on the film side into scripted and unscripted series for television and streaming platforms as well.”
They added, “This is another prime example of our ‘Lionsgate 360’ cross-platform approach. Cassian has an incredible eye for signature content and tremendous relationships with world-class talent, and we look forward to working together on an exciting array of programming.”
Elwes, who became a stalwart of the independent film world during his 1994-2009 stint as co-head of William Morris Independent, said: “I’m delighted to expand my relationship with Lionsgate into the world of television. Their television brand, like their film business, is synonymous with bold, original and ground-breaking content, and I can’t wait to collaborate with Kevin [Beggs, chairman of Lionsgate Television Group], Chris, Jen and the team on an exciting roster of fiction and nonfiction programming.”
Elwes joins a roster of producers with Lionsgate deals that includes Joel Silver, Matt Kunitz , Courtney Kemp and Ed Zwick and Marshall Herskovitz.
Lionsgate’s TV series include Orange Is The New Black and Man Men as well as current shows Nashville, Casuals and The Royals.
