Evolution Mallorca International Film Festival (EMIFF) is to honour Danish filmmaker Lone Scherfig and Spanish actor Laia Costa with the Evolution Vision and Evolution New Talent awards respectively, at the festival’s 11th edition, taking place on the Spanish island of Mallorca from October 26 to November 1.
Scherfig’s international breakthrough came in 2000 with Italian For Beginners, which won the Silver Bear jury grand prix award at Berlin. Her credits include features One Day, An Education and upcoming Spanish-language The Movie Teller, that stars Daniel Brühl and Bérénice Bejo, and is being sold by UK sales agent Embankment. She has also directed TV series The Shift.
Costa starred in Harry Wootliff’s BFI London Film Festival (LFF) premiere Only You. Further credits include Lullaby, which premiered this year at Berlin, Victoria, Newness and Piercing. She has also appeared alongside Patrick Dempsey in financial thriller TV series Devils.
For the first time, the festival will feature a new sidebar, Cinematography Focus, as part of its seven-day programme. Directors of photography from across the world will be invited to participate in panels and networking events at EMIFF. In addition, a director of photography honouree will be announced soon.
The full EMIFF programme will be announced via a press conference in Mallorca in early October. Additional festival honourees, centrepiece feature films, and EMIFF’s planned panels and industry discussions for the 2022 edition are set to be revealed in the coming weeks.
