Swedish director Lukas Moodysson is readying Together 99, a sequel to his 2000 international hit Together.
It will tell the story of a group of very different individuals who in 1975 lived in a commune called “Together”. Now it is 1999, and the collective has turned into a commune of just two people - Göran and Klasse. They decide to reconnect with their old friends. Gustaf Hammarsten will return in the role as Göran and Shanti Roney will play his friend Klasse. Further cast will be announced ahead of shooting in August.
Together 99 is being produced by Memfis Film’s Lars Jönsson and Anna Carlsten with SF Studios and Film i Väst with support from the Swedish Film Institute and Nordisk Film & TV Fond. Principal photography will take place in the western part of Sweden in August and September. SF Studios will distribute the film in the Nordics, REinvent is handling international sales.
The film is written by Moodysson, whose credits include Show Me Love, Together, Lilya 4-ever , Mammoth and We Are the Best! and the HBO series Gösta.
“Together 99 will be the world’s saddest comedy,” said Moodysson. “It´s about getting old, looking back, regretting everything you have done, or regretting nothing, lying awake at night missing someone you have not met in twenty years, longing back, looking forward.”
