M-Appeal is to handle worldwide rights for Argentinian coming-of-age title Vera And The Pleasure Of Others, by Romina Tamburello and Federico Actis.
The Berlin-based sales agent picked up the title following its presentation in Ventana Sur’s Primer Corte - Films in Progress, and will be introducing to buyers at the EFM this week.
Currently in post-production, Vera And The Pleasure Of Others follows the story of 17-year-old Vera who, in between school and volleyball classes, rents out an empty flat to teenagers looking for a place to have sex. What starts out as a way to make money develops into Vera’s discovery of her own sexual desires. It is produced by Santiago King through Argentina’s PEZ CINE. The lead characters are played by Luciana Grasso as Vera, and Inés Estevez as Vera’s mother Adriana.
The film is the debut feature by Argentinian directors Romina Tamburello and Federico Actis, who previously collaborated on short films that were screened at international festivals including IFFR and Guadalajara.
“We wanted to bring something new to the coming-of-age genre. This film does not judge its protagonist, but instead accompanies her and celebrates her courage to go in search of what brings her pleasure. Vera And The Pleasure Of Others is about female sexuality at different ages, both Vera and her mother are following their desires,” the directors commented of the new drama.
Maren Kroymann, managing director of M-Appeal describes the film as a “bold and uplifting” story that “centres on female desire, discovery, and sex-positivity. It represents what we look for at M-Appeal, which celebrates its 15th birthday this year, and we know there is an audience who loves this kind of cinema as much as we do.”
M-Appeal will be introducing the title to buyers at the EFM alongside eight newly acquired library titles by Ryûsuke Hamaguchi, and recently premiered films In Bed by Nitzan Gilady, Valeria Is Getting Married by Michal Vinik, and A Cup Of Coffee And New Shoes On by Gentian Koçi.
