Mads Mikkelsen will star in Jonas Akerlund’s action spy thriller The Black Kaiser, the latest title to join the XYZ Films Cannes sales roster.
XYZ Films handles worldwide sales and also serves as executive producer on the adaptation of the Dark Horse graphic novel Polar which is a Constantin Film/JB Pictures production in association with Dark Horse Entertainment.
Jayson Rothwell and Mikkelsen adapted the screenplay to Victor San’s graphic novel and the story will follow Mikkelsen in the title role as the world’s most lethal hitman who becomes the number one target of a syndicate of killers when he uncovers a deadly conspiracy.
Discussions with additional cast are underway. Jeremy Bolt and Robert Kulzer are serving as producers and Martin Moszkowicz, Mike Richardson, Keith Goldberg and Mikkelsen are executive producers.
Mikkelsen’s renowned roles include Oscar winner Another Round, Casino Royale, The Hunt, Doctor Strange, Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets Of Dumbledore Hannibal Lecter in TV series Hannibal, and the upcoming Untitled Fifth Indiana Jones Film.
Among Swedish director Jonas Akerlund’s credits are Lords Of Chaos, Small Apartments, Spun, and Netflix limited series Clark.
XYZ’s roster includes Hounds Of War starring Frank Grillo, Robert Patrick and Rhona Mitra, the Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead Sundance premiere Something In The Dirt and Nic Cassavetes’ God Is A Bullet starring Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, Maika Monroe and Jamie Foxx. In post is Gareth Evans’s Netflix Original Havoc starring Tom Hardy and Forrest Whitaker.
